onion crop 2018This is less than half of the onions we grew this year, braided and hung up in the summer kitchen until first frost, when we’ll move them into the dry cellar under the ‘new’ part of the house.  We use a lot of onions in our cooking, and in the foods we preserve, like the many gallons of salsa we need to last us until next year’s tomatoes come on.  We grow Sweet Spanish Yellow onions, some from seed, some (more) from sets.  Each year we try to get some onion seed started in fall cold frames, but so far we haven’t mastered the technique.
