The late green grass notwithstanding, we’ll soon be seeing freezing temperatures, so it’s time to start getting the poultry ready for winter. Bell waterers, with their plastic tanks and valves, will have to be emptied and replaced with rubber bowls that won’t break when they freeze. And all of the’ tractors’m– sliding pens, moved by traction — need to be winterized with a good layer of translucent plastic or canvas. In these mini-greenhouses, the chickens will stay comfortable, as well as continuing to lay moderately pretty much all winter. The pullets pictured here, young birds, should start laying with a bang in February.
