What are the pigs eating right now?  As we go into the winter the pigs are getting all the things that will spoil or freeze if left for later.  We’re still working our way through the cull squash and pumpkins;  any that were damaged, underripe, or lost their stems, and any that start to get soft in storage.  Great vitamins, energy, and fiber, with seeds that are high in fat, protein, and incidentally are a natural wormer.  Mangel-wurzel tops.  Corn stover.  Whey and buttermilk.  Kitchen scraps.  There are 3,000 lb. of potatoes in the root cellar, and about 2,000 lb of mangel-wurzels, but these roots store well, so we’ll wait until later in the winter before we start offering them in the pig pen.
